Staff and pupils were experiencing performance issues. On occasions this impacted the school’s canteen fingerprint and EPOS system. This could have resulted in a loss of income, an important revenue stream for the school that enables them to maintain the facilities.
The existing backup did not include a dedicated disaster recovery server.
The server hardware had reached end-of-life.
How did we help?
The IT team at Campbell College had been battling with aging hardware and performance bottlenecks.
Over the February half-term, while students were on leave, we helped them transition the IT from end of life infrastructure to a new, highly available Dell and Microsoft virtualised environment.
- We implemented two Dell PowerEdge Hyper-V hosts with 10GB high-speed fibre connectivity and high performance SSD storage disks.
- All virtual machines were migrated from the old hardware onto the new server platform.
- To provide a full Disaster Recovery solution, an additional Dell PowerEdge server was located in a remote data centre on campus with fibre connectivity.
- All virtual machines are replicated to the Disaster Recovery server to minimise downtime in the event of a server failure.
- Veeam was configured to provide a daily backup to a physically remote backup appliance within College grounds.
We were delighted to have been able to co-ordinate this project and deploy fully within one week before pupils returned to class. The College now have a server infrastructure that meets its business continuity needs.
